You may think this is a odd time to post about such a thing as flea powder & flea control (it's winter at the time of this writing), but depending upon your location & the severity of your winter, you may need this all year long, or at the very least, early next spring. I would rather have information or product on-hand, or know where to find it quickly, instead of scrambling around trying to find it when I need it . . . NOW!
As often happens, I needed to do some research for a customer at the health food market I work at & I thought it was worth having for myself & for sharing with you.
Here's what you'll need:
Dried or powdered in equal amounts:
- eucalyptus
- fennel
- rosemary
- wormwood
- yellow dock
Directions:
1) With a hand grinder or in a small coffee grinder (dedicated to use w/herbs ~ otherwise, your herb mixes will smell like coffee), grind these ingredients into a powder & mix well together.
2) Store in a shaker-top container; a used, clean Parmesan cheese container works very well.
3) When ready to use **USE OUTSIDE!** You don't want the fleas to hop off into your carpet.
4) With a brush or comb, brush or comb fur backwards & apply powder so that it gets onto the skin. More can be used in more heavily infested areas.
5) Use as often as needed.
Pets are family, aren't they?

Thanks! That's great. I wonder if it would work on lice... In the farm animals. We don't get fleas in this part of the state much.
ReplyDeleteHello there, thankyou so much for the flea powder recipe. What a timely post, you see, in New Zealand here it is mid summer and very hot.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't happy contemplating a trip to the Vet for some more fleaing liquid, so will hunt out the ingredients and see how I go. Oh, we have 2 dogs and 2 cats to flea, so costs soon add up. Lovely blog by the way, glad I found came across it! Lee-Anne
Is it equal parts of each? Last summer was out first time with fleas on our dogs ~ we thought the heat might have had something to do with it.
ReplyDelete~Dalyn~ Don't know about the lice, but w/the eucalyptus, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
ReplyDelete~Lee-Anne~ Wow! New Zealand! Thanks for reading, glad it was timely for you.
~Greg & Donna~ Yes, equal parts. That was silly of me not to say. Thanks for bringing it up.

Thanks for posting this Kim, I am going to pass it on to a friend who is dealing with fleas in Texas. :)
ReplyDeletePets are family. We have two small dogs and I appreciate the recipe for fleas. Our one dog has allergies and we are not sure what is causing it. We have been trying some different things. If you have a thought let me know.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you for the New Year.
~LeAnn~ Believe it or not, there's actually a website called Dog Allergies.com! Ha! Click here --> http://commondogallergies.com I would start there, if you don't see what you like there (like too many chemicals), then Google something like "Homemade Dog Allergy Relief" or "Organic Dog Allergy Relief."
