Homemade Headache Balm

You know we all get headaches & we don't always want to medicate ourselves, or we may already be on some other medication(s) that doesn't allow us to take aspirin or Advil or some other pain med. Here's a great way to soothe away your headache pain...even sinus or migraine pain & insomnia!

  • 3 TB. refined Shea Butter (or Grapeseed Oil for oilier skins)
  • 1 TB. Jojoba base oil
  • 15 drops EACH of: peppermint, rosemary & Roman chamomile essential oils
  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops of sweet marjoram essential oil

  1. In a small pan, w/low heat, warm the Shea butter & Jojoba (or Grapeseed) oil until JUST melted & blended.
  2. Remove from heat, let cool for about 15 minutes, stir a couple of times during that period.
  3. Add essential oils & stir.
  4. Pour into a container w/a good air-tight lid; a small Rubbermaid or an old, clean cream jar or a small glass canning jar works well.
  5. Store in refrigerator overnight or until is has the consistency of butter.
  6. Once it is semi-firm in the frig, take it out & let it warm to room temp; after that, there is no need to to refrigerate again.
  7. APPLY to any area that feels stressed or has pain: forehead, temples, neck &/or shoulders.
  8. Makes about 1/4 c.

  1. Glad to see your computer is working again. Thanks for the great headache tips. I try to wait out a headache before I take any medicine. I'll have to try your balm next time I have a headache.

  2. Thank you, Kim, for sharing this recipe! Can all of the needed ingredients be found at a Health Food store, such as GNC or Vitamin World? I'm thinking that maybe something like that would be good to apply to my tender points affected by the fibromyalgia or also my arthritic joints. What do you think?

Glad you have your computer back! :-)

How are things going with your job?

  3. Thanks, ladies, I hope you enjoy it. It lasts a long time, too.

Dianna ~ I'm not sure about GNC, do they carry essential oils or are they only suppliments & energy stores? You may have better luck finding the ingredients at a health food store; I know we carry all of them at the store I work at. Where I work is where I bought my goodies b4 I worked there. :-)

Yes, I think it will work well for your 'tender points' b/c it penetrates so well...&...since it's a balm, you could also use it to soften rough, dry hands, feet, elbows, knees & even as a cuticle cream!

    Enjoy!

  4. I hate taking medications, and as someone battling fibromylagia and all of its associated symptoms, I'm already on a few, so this balm sounds wonderful. Thanks so much!
