Word-Filled Wednesday ~#30~ Life's Most Important Question: Who is This Jesus?
"Once when Jesus was praying in private & His disciples were with Him, He asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?"
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; & still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life."
"But what about you?" He asked.
"Who do YOU say I am?"
Peter answered, "The Christ* of God."
~Luke 9:18-20
{*Messiah ~ The Anointed One}
"I'm trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the ONE THING we must not say. A man who was merely a man & said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would be either a lunatic ~ on a level with a man who says he is a poached egg ~ or else He would be the Devil of Hell.
You must make your choice.
Either this Man was, & is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit on Him & kill Him as a demon; OR you can fall at His feet & call Him Lord & God. But let us NOT come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has NOT left that open to us. He did NOT intend to."

CS Lewis is one of my favorite writers. A few of our church leaders have quoted from his writings.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the scripture and the insightful post.
Blessings to you!
