Word-Filled Wednesday ~#40~ Choose Wisely

PASSAGE: "But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey Him. For the LORD your God is a merciful God; He will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which He confirmed to them by oath . . . Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other." ~Deut. 4:29-31, 39

LESSON LEARNED: Do you remember the scene in "Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade" when Indy purposefully picked up the simple, clay cup he thought was the cup that Jesus had used during the Last Supper (a.k.a. the holy grail)? He turned to the old knight who had spent centuries guarding it and the old man said, "You have chosen wisely."

How have your decisions been lately? Have you chosen wisely? We try so hard to make the best decisions, but this ol' world is so tempting and so dangerous that we can walk right onto the path of unrighteousness almost without knowing it . . . almost.

But we serve a good and mighty God, One Who is "mighty to save"! (Isaiah 63:1) We are not perfect, non of us, but God is. It has to make Him sad when we sin, and it must break His heart if we walk away from Him; but He is not only God, He is our Father. And just as His character is depicted in the parable of the Prodigal Son (or as some call it, "The Gracious Father"), He is the ultimate loving & forgiving Father.

Some of us are a little more hard-headed than others and we let ourselves get to the bottom so that all we can do is look up; and when we look up we see His loving eyes and His hand reaching down to lift us out of our sin. And while He dusts us off He tells us how much He loves us, He reassures us of His mercy and forgiveness, that He will not abandon us, that He keeps His promises even when we don't choose wisely. All we had to do was look for Him ~ with our heart and soul ~ and realize that "there is no other" God but Him.

And He loves us.
