A friend of mine recently asked me if I knew of any home remedies for chronic sinus infections. And as I happen to have a DD who suffers from these, I shared w/her a few remedies. I thought it was timely & that you might like to know them, too...
~keep hydrated; drink hot herbal teas like fennel, chamomile, thyme, echinacea or sage.
~Garlic, garlic, garlic - a chopped or grated fresh clove in a nice hot mug of chicken broth or put a little extra in the affected person's soup; or of course, a garlic supplement like Kyolic garlic that doesn't give you bad breath or burps.
~Use a Neti Pot ...or...
make your own nasal flush. Dissolve 1/4 ts salt & 1/4 ts baking soda in warm water, use a nasal syringe or dropper to drop it in your nose or use this combination in the Neti Pot.
~Place a washcloth soaked in as hot (BUT NOT SCALDING!!!) water as you can comfortably stand & place it over your cheek bones & eyes for several minutes to relieve pain & soften mucus.
~Sniff some camphor or thyme oil either straight from the bottle (preferred) or slightly diluted.
~Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a hankie & inhale from time-to-time.
~Now...IF you can catch it as soon as you feel the symptoms beginning, drop 3 drops of Oreganol under your tongue twice on the 1st day, the last time being right before you go to bed. It's very likely you will wake up as if you had never had any symptoms! You can find this at just about any health food store. This is 1 of my very favorite home remedies!!
Hope this helps you & yours.
Blessings from Ohio...Kim<><

Now this is a timely post! It seems that I've had lots of problems with my sinuses this winter. I do keep a pot of water on the wood stove, but these suggestions of yours will certainly help. Thanks so much, Kim.
ReplyDeleteKim, I too, am a chronic sinus sufferer. One of the best things I have discovered is to rinse my sinuses twice daily with colloidal silver. It, it addition to avoiding foods that aggravate sinus inflamation, works well for me.
ReplyDeleteGood advice, Kim, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim for this info. My honey fights having sinus infections at different times. I will give this a try.
ReplyDeleteAre you getting snow in your area? We are getting more tonight and tomorrow! Can't wait to get my hands in the garden!
Hugs sweet friend, Linda
Rocky Mtn Homemaker ~ Hmmmm, I agree, that sounds like great advice.
ReplyDeleteLinda ~ we got a little more than a dusting today. Seemed to have snowed for hours, but little accumulation. I need to see what we're expecting the weather to do tomorrow. I'm ready for sunshine.
Blessings, Kim<><
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI've had some serious bouts with sinus infections in the past-always settles in my ears. I've used almost of all of the remedies and found them comforting but I found garlic oil the most helpful. The last two years I've been, thankfully, so much better in spite of a few uncomfortable days. I do like the idea of the eucalyptus oil on a hankie too. Thanks Kim!
Have a wonderful day!
(Is that your vintage kitchen items in your header? Really nice collection!)
With Love from the Cabin,
Claudia
Great tips:)
ReplyDeleteI have just discovered that catnip tea seems to ease my sinuses when they act up.
