The Simple Woman's Daybook ~#69~ 3/9/10

For Today...

Outside my window...lovely, lovely sunshine! The songbirds are coming back in great numbers & are singing their sweet morning songs. The snow is almost gone, just little heaps here & there in the yard & road-sides.

I am thinking...why does life get so much more complicated in the adult years. These days, you never seems to know what 'the rules' are.

I am thankful for...my hard-working husband.

From the kitchen...not sure about lunch, since it will only be me...probably ziti & meatballs & either salad or mixed veggies & garlic bread for supper.

I am wearing...jeans, light-weight turtleneck shirt.

I am remembering…my Daddy's laugh & his wonderful sense of humor.

I am going…to speak at a homeschool meeting in Dayton, tonight, on "Homeschooling High School." Gathering my materials & notes. I'm going to try to take the fear out of the best years of homeschooling!

I am reading...still reading my notes/highlights/underlines from my old Bible as I transfer them into my new one. I'm not an "Old Testiment person" & am realizing - once again(!) - that I should be. It's taking me longer to transfer my notes - although they are voluminous - than I thought b/c I get caught up in it & start reading. Not a bad thing at all. :-)

I am hoping...that I will be a blessing to the homeschoolers tonight. I always try to be the type of speaker I would like to listen to.

On my mind…my mom. Her dementia is increasing at an alarming rate. I think less & less of it is for attention. It's a sad, scary thing.

I am creating...a peaceful home.

I am hearing...the radio, DD#2 puttering around the bathroom as she gets ready for work.

Noticing that…I desperately need a hair cut. :-/

Pondering these words..."Humility is NOT a celebrated trait in our modern world...it can only follow God...When God goes, humility goes..." ~ John Piper.

Around the house...a little laundry, mopping the kitchen/downstairs bathroom, making laundry detergent & maybe a new batch of glycerine soap...that might have to wait til tomorrow.

One of my favorite things...the money I save by making my own personal care & home care products that work!

A Scripture thought...Psalm 119:54 ~ NIV says: "Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge." I recently found that the NLT has a lovely translation of this verse: "Your principles have been the music of my life throughout the years of my pilgrimage." I love that phrase..."the music of my life..."

A few plans for the rest of the week...speaking engagement tonight, taking DD#2 to/from work, maintaining the household. On Thursday a dear friend of mine from our old church (several miles away) is coming up to go w/me to the wonderful Old Order German Baptist farm stores that I do some of my grocery shopping at! I'm excited to see her.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...
I'm STILL praying about opening my bulk food business {Marmee's Pantry} here!!

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

  1. Kim, I always love visiting with you. So many of our likes (and dislikes) are the same. Today, my heart is especially linked to you where your dear mother is concerned. My heart aches for you and your brother as you begin dealing with this dreaded disease of dementia. I truly believe my mother is entering her own walk down this path. You have my prayers and support, dear sweet Kim. Praying all goes well for you tonight as you speak.

  2. Love your Daybook posts. WE as women ponder so many of the same things in our hearts, just different people or circumstances involved... my mom's heartbreaker is cancer - stage 4. I can not imagine her making it to the end of this year, but she is such a trooper... I love your scripture translation about the music in our lives. So nice a choice of words. (you and me both girl, I desperately need a hair cut too. sometimes that is the one thing I let go too long because of budget.) And hang on to that dream. I have given my dreams to the Lord, but boy I sure didn't drop them and forget about them. Dreams give hope and hope makes us float some days when life would pull us down! Thanks so much for sharing. I enjoyed it muchly! Hugs.

  3. I feel you. Andrew and I went for a bike ride today, and even though it felt and smelled like fall, hearing the robins made it a little disconcerting. It'll be a great day when there's no more snow for the year!
